Kitley Line 9 Bridge Replacement
The Challenge
No current topographic data existed for bridge design and hydrological analysis, creating significant engineering risks.
The Solution
IBW deployed field crews to perform comprehensive topographic surveys with detailed creek bed profiling and structural mapping.
The Result
Complete topographic dataset delivered, enabling accurate bridge design and hydrological analysis for safe infrastructure replacement.
Project Summary
Bridge Replacement Survey for Critical Infrastructure Planning
Location
Elizabethtown-Kitley, ON
When municipalities need to replace aging bridge infrastructure, accurate topographic data forms the foundation of safe and effective design. The Kitley Line 9 Bridge Replacement project presented IBW Surveyors with the challenge of providing comprehensive survey data where none existed, enabling engineering teams to proceed with confidence in their bridge replacement design and hydrological analysis.
Technical Details
Precision Creek Bed Profiling and Structural Documentation
The technical scope of this project required precision surveying across multiple specialized areas. IBW’s field crews conducted extensive creek bed profiling, measuring 150 meters upstream and 150 meters downstream from the proposed crossing to support accurate hydrological modeling. The existing bridge structure was meticulously measured to create detailed as-built documentation, including precise cross-sections that would be critical for the final survey deliverables. This comprehensive approach ensured that the engineering design team had access to complete structural and environmental data, eliminating the information gaps that had previously prevented project advancement.
Equipment & Technology
Advanced Surveying Technology with LiDAR Data Integration
IBW utilized advanced surveying technology combined with innovative data supplementation techniques to deliver comprehensive results. The primary data collection relied on precision surveying equipment deployed by experienced field crews who gathered detailed measurements of both the creek bed topography and existing structural elements. To enhance the survey coverage and provide complete contextual data, IBW strategically incorporated open source LiDAR data to fill gaps in areas where additional topographic context was needed, ensuring the final deliverable provided a complete picture of the site conditions.
